The original Volvo sequence was taken from a commercial I shot on 35mm film several years ago.
I took a CG E-350 that was already modeled. I had to tweaked and clean up the model, created shaders and textures, matched framed the original moving plate. Animated the car as to mimic the Volvo then lit and rendered several passes out. Beauty, Diffuse, ambience, AO, shadow, reflection and holdout mattes. I took it all into After Effects where I stabilized the camera weaving in the original footage, as it was shot at 90 FPS. Used empty frames as an overlay to hide the Volvo, rotoscoped the leaves, placed the new CG car, color corrected and added some light glistening on the sheet metal.
