These Photos are inspired by one of the best 1930-40s Movie Star Portrait Photographers, George Hurrell.
The models are friends of mine who sat uncomfortably close to various movie lights. Although, Hurrell used an 8X10 plate camera, the largest I wonted to use was my own 4X5 camera. I tried to recreate the mood, not only with lighting, film stock, hair-makeup, but also with original jewelry, and clothing from that era.
Finally, I tried to use the same techniques’ Hurrell used with his retouching and painting. I’m not crazy, I didn’t mess around with the picture or negative, instead, I spent many hours in Photoshop painstakingly painting in pours, highlights, hair and eyes. (no cloning)
